sites produced by webkewl

Here is a sampling of the sites that have been produced by webkewl.

The Vermont Rally

Vermont Rally™

The Vermont Rally™ is a new event for the Rutland region and will be held June 6, 7, and 8 at The Vermont State Fairgrounds in Rutland VT. This is shaping up to be a HUGE event and webkewl has been very active with it, with Tom serving on the core committee, serving as entertainment coordinator, and deploying a new website for the event. More than a motorcycle rally, the event will mix motorcycle and community events with continuous live music.

The site utilizes an open sourced content management system called Joomla! which allows event organizers to update the site utilizing authors, editors, and publishers. Comments are available on news items, faq's and blogs, and a forum is available that registered site users can post in. Syndication is enabled allowing for live bookmarks and RSS feeds. In the coming weeks we'll be adding content, as well as e-commerce for advance ticket sales and more.

Business Basics, Inc., a Vermont bookkeeping service

Business Basics, Inc.

Business Basics, Inc. is a bookkeeping service based in Rutland, VT that is owned and operated by Pamela Skillin, CB. Pam is great. She started taking care of webkewl invoicing about six months ago and I'm really happy with the service she provides.

The site is what I tend to call "brochureware". It's simple, small, and informative, reflecting the look of Pams' business card. I had suggested we might want to go with a different look for it - that I wasn't real keen on the clip art feel of it. Now that it's been launched, Pam is starting to see what I was saying and we're likely to change the look and feel of it in the not too distant future. In the meantime, it's a great introduction to Pam and her Vermont based bookkeeping services - a service I'm happy to recommend!

The site was designed in association with Leslie Noyes Creative and showcases the wide range of living room, dining room, bedroom and custom furniture created by this master craftsman.

dogclothingapparel.com

DogClothingApparel.com

This ecommerce site employs the open source PHP/MySQL based ZenCart and PayPal for checkout. All products are made in the United States and include all natural dog treats, catnip grown in Vermont, cat toys, dog toys, collars, leads, bandanas, formal wear and dog clothing.

The cart allows the site owner to add and remove products as well as numerous site features. webkewl set up the initial products and trained the client in administering the site as well as recommending the freeware GIMP (for windows) for photo editing and providing training in how to best edit photos for the site.

Greenbush Tape & Label

Greenbush Tape & Label

Greenbush Tape & Label prints sticky stuff - labels, stickers, tape, in all shapes and sizes. The site design concept was provided by DesignWorks and produced by webkewl. Site features include a private FTP area that makes it easy for Greenbush staff to assign a username and password for clients to upload files to their own directories. Files can also be zipped on the server.

In addition to information about their in-house art department, the site also features a designers network showcasing graphic artists the company has worked with as well as information about how to design a label, request for quote form, job order form, and a layout that showcases a variety of labels they have produced which change with each page load.

Caulfield Art Gallery

Caulfield Art Gallery

In 1983 Robert O. Caulfield and his wife Marilyn opened The Caulfield Art Gallery in a two-hundred year old house on Central Street in the town of Woodstock, Vermont. This year, they approached webkewl about making their current site easier to navigate without changing the look too terribly much. So we did :-)

Robert O. Caulfield is truly an American Art Master. The site showcases his books, paintings, and lithographs.

Pet Portraits by Barbara Van Vliet

Barbara's Dog Portraits

Barbara Van Vliet is an artist and graphic designer that we've had the opportunity to work with numerous times in the past. She owns Bright Meadow Graphics, has provided pet portraits for the Orvis catalog.

She decided it was time to go direct to the public with her pet portraits by launching a web site. Barbara provided the design, webkewl provided the production. Barbara updates the site herself, in fact, we now provide Bright Meadow production and consultation as necessary in the design and implementation of sites for Bright Meadow clients.

Showcased on the site are dog portraits and cat portraits. Which makes me think I should ask if she would do a team of draft horses for my Dad!

Rutland Industries web site

Rutland Industries

Rutland Industries is a contract manufacturer that employs folks with challenges in our community. They perform assembly work, mailings, packaging, and more. Recently, they were given two products to produce wholly on their own and decided it was time for a web site to help promote both their services and these products.

The products are really great if you have a need to park or store bicycles. The "Little Parker™" Bicycle Parking Modules are used by schools, municipalities, businesses - any entity that needs to provide a secure way for people to park bicycles while utilizing a minimum of space and being aesthetically pleasing. The "Mini Mum™" Bicycle Storage Unit is a clever design that takes up little space and allows bikes to be safely hung. I'm definitely going to get a couple of these as they look like the perfect bicycle storage solution.

The goal here was to get something on the web quickly and inexpensively with the ability to grow with time.

Stream and Brook Fly Fishing web site

Stream and Brook Fly Fishing

I met Foster Hetherington in his days at The McKernon Group and when he and partner John Synnott wanted a site for their fly fishing business, they contacted me. A year later, they contacted me again.

Goals were to give the formerly "framed" site better access to search engine robots while giving it a new look and feel on a budget. John is able to update the site using Dreamweaver and Photoshop for which we created a custom Photo Album action.

Stream and Brook Fly Fishing guides fisherman through three areas of Vermont with guided trips, a fly fishing school, a casting school, and more. Heck, I might have to go out fishing with these guys some day. I grew up in Vermont and always used worms in the streams and brooks!

Dyneonline

Dynesonline

One of three Diversified Enterprises sites currently online, this is without question our most ambitious project to date, and most of the ambition takes place behind the scenes.

This ecommerce site provides technical supplies for laboratories and process control.

Creating an account (which is free) allows you to make online purchases either via credit card or purchase order (if credit approved), apply for credit approval, get custom quotes, and more. The site incorporates numerous volume discount calculations for particular items, and a navigation structure that allows navigation of the entire site from each page.

Green Mountain Soapstone

Green Mountain Soapstone

This Vermont soapstone company, based in Hubardton, VT, produces some excellent products. It's been featured on TLC's "Moving Up" show, and numerous national magazines devoted to home improvement.

The site provides information about company offerings such as soapstone sinks, countertops, floor tile, wall tile, and masonry heaters as well as information about the activities of this active company and educational material about soapstone care and maintenance.

Design by DesignWorks, production by webkewl.

Screenshot of The McKernon Group web site

The McKernon Group

Located in Brandon, Vermont, The McKernon Group isn't your average construction company. These folks are into the details with both architectural design and construction personnel on staff. They even have staff artists and their own iron forge for making hand-wrought iron items.

The custom built homes I had opportunity to visit as part of getting to know the company were just phenomenal, and they have some great photographs of their craftsmanship on the site.

Design by Opaque Productions, production by webkewl

Thomas J. Hill Design Build website home page

Thomas J. Hill Design Build

We all have our passions, and for Thomas J. Hill it's Ultralight Boatbuilding. As is usually the case, Tom was referred to webkewl by an existing client. I had no idea that Ultralight Boatbuilding even existed when Tom approached me, but these boats are really nice. I was amazed at how light they are for their size and how beautiful they look. Using a glued plywood lapstrake construction method for canoes, skiffs, and dories, Tom has created plans for a number of boats as well as a book on Ultralight Boatbuilding and instructional video.

The site is an e-commerce site produced with MGI. In addition to Ultralight boat plans and the instructional materials, a list of boat building resources is also provided giving hobbyists a complete resource on the web for building these boats.

Cafe Provence

Café Provence

This restaurant in Brandon, Vermont has made quite a splash since opening last year. I've only had an opportunity to do lunch there, but it was excellent. One of these evenings I would love to get up there for one of their Wine Tasting Dinners (I'm a big fan of the red stuff). They do a variety of special events like cooking classes, having guest chefs... I really need to get up there some evening!

The site was produced in association with Opaque. Café Provence management updates the site using Macromedia Contribute.

Joey Leone and The High Society Band

Joey Leone

This guy is one serious guitarist, with numerous awards and endorsements (think voted best unknown guitarist of '91 by Guitar Player magazine and Marshall amplifiers.

Short story here... A friend of mine's daughter was getting married and the night before a bunch of us ended up at the Santa Fe Steakhouse where Joey was playing. The father of the bride wanted people in the wedding party to hear me sing and went to Joey about it. Trepidacious at first, Joey relented and we all had a real good time. We got a chance to talk after and the next thing I knew he asked me to take over his website. Now when I walk in where he's playing we both get this big grin on our faces... You kind of have to be there... :-)

The site was originally designed by Price Creations. We brought it up to date a bit behind the scenes and maintain it.

If you're looking for live entertainment in Vermont and surrounding areas, check these guys out. From solo acoustic, to rock, jazz, blues, R&B, and even big band, Joey Leone's Chop Shop does it all as evidenced by their list of upcoming appearances and what people say in their guestbook.

Paricon Sleds

Paricon Sleds

You have to be from snow country to appreciate this, but when I was a kid, in northern Vermont, I had a Flexible Flyer sled. I grew up in what even locals called "God's Country", and there were lots of dirt roads on big hills that when conditions were just right, you really could appreciate the term "Flexible Flyer". It's amazing we survived these pre-helmet days...

Anyway, Paricon Sleds are the people that build these today, so it's kind of a kick to be involved in this site. Paricon produces all kinds of sleds - Foam Sleds, Plastic Sleds, Baby Sleds, Toboggans, Saucers, Snowboards, Inflatable Sleds, and of course, the Flexible Flyer Steel Runner Sled.

webkewl produced this site in association with Bright Meadow Graphics.

The Polysurfaces Bookstore

The Polysurfaces Bookstore

The first of several projects for Diversified Enterprises, this site, like Dynesonline (and Accu Dyne Test - an informational sibling sporting a database driven bibliography) has some interesting things going on under the hood.

Diversified uses an application called APL which they use to manage the sizeable amount of information they have. When it comes to us, each field is a separate file in one long string of text. Using AppleScript, we are able to process these files with a minimum of manual effort so that they can be imported into the 5 MGI databases that drive the site.

The site, which sells books that revolve around a core interest area of polymer surfaces and coatings, is database driven however great pains were taken to make sure that the pages within did not become part of that "deep web" (information housed in databases that search engines don't yet crawl well). The extra effort has been well worth it.
